On October 8th, 2024, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a MS in Geography degree holder working in the Field of Geospatial Information Science

We made the case with their 1 publications and 11 citations, for national importance and well positioned to advance proposed endeavor!. They wrote the initial petition by themselves and USCIS did their normal job, RFE. USCIS said, “The record lacks a specific and well-detailed description about what the petitioner endeavors to do in the United States, as well the nature of the specific endeavor. Merely working in an important field is insufficient to establish the national importance of the proposed endeavor. The recommendation letters discuss the petitioner’s background and qualifications, but do not provide any insight into how the specific proposed endeavor will have broad implications.”

That was when they brought the RFE to me. This is what we did for this client from Nigeria who is a GIS technologist in geospatial information science. We argued the following for them:

As a geographer with expertise in the field of geographic information systems technologist and technician, my proposed endeavor will specialize in using Geographic Information system (GIS) in mapping, and geo-tracking emerging public health like Chronic Disease like diabetes, lung cancer, Heart Disease. Part of my long-term plan to revolutionize hurricane preparedness and evacuation strategies in the United States through the integration of advanced technologies.

Their proposed endeavor also has broad implications for the United States since their  use of GIS data supports chronic diseases, hurricane preparedness efforts is of national interest to America. This was also evident because of the 2 letters of recommendation available to them supporting their work in the area. One of these letters said the following:

“The national importance of M’s proposed project cannot be overstated. Using GIS and remote sensing to address environmental and public health issues is of immense significance to the United States, enhancing its ability to tackle environmental challenges, monitor disease outbreaks, and implement effective urban planning initiatives. Having worked closely with M, I can confidently attest to their outstanding qualifications, achievements, and contributions to the field. Their expertise, combined with his proposed endeavor, makes him a great candidate for the EB2-National Interest Waiver. “

We are thus proud of having written this petition for them and we wish them all the very best in their future endeavors as they wait for priority date.
